The optimal selection of diameter of gas networks
A separate group consists of algorithms for optimal network design - a basic tool for pipeline designer. These are used most commonly to determine, for given network structure, the respective diameters of the pipelines in such a way as to minimize some objective function, characterizing the cost of investment and maintenance of the network. In the process of searching for the minimum objective function, constraints are taken into account which are imposed on maximum gas flow in the pipes and the minimum pressure at selected nodes. Another variant of this optimal network design algorithm is the choice of location of the elements like valves, pressure regulator stations, compressor stations, from the viewpoint of minimizing the lexergy oss of the stream of transported gas.
